conversation between teacher and student about
"oxidation reduction reaction".
Is a term that describes the change in the oxidation state (oxidation state) of atoms in a chemical reaction.
This can be a simple redox process such as carbon oxidation that produces carbon dioxide, or carbon reduction by hydrogen to produce methane (CH4), or it can be a complex process such as the oxidation of sugar in the human body through a series of complicated electron transfers.
The term redox comes from two concepts, namely reduction and oxidation. It can be easily explained as follows:
Oxidation describes the release of electrons by a molecule, atom, or ion
Reduction describes the addition of electrons by a molecule, atom, or ion.
Although quite appropriate for use in various purposes, the above explanation is not exactly true. Oxidation and reduction precisely refer to changes in oxidation numbers because actual electron transfer will not always occur. So that oxidation is better defined as an increase in oxidation number, and reduction as a decrease in oxidation number. In practice, electron transfer will always change the oxidation number, but there are many reactions that are classified as "redox" even though there is no electron transfer in the reaction (eg involving covalent bonds).
Non-redox reactions that do not involve formal charge changes are known as metathesis reactions.
Teacher: good morning, how are the students?
All students: good, and you??
teacher: yes i am good. Well before we start our material today, that is about the reduction and oxidation reaction. Before me we begin who knows what is oxidation reduction reaction?
Angel: i will explain what is the oxidation reduction reaction?
teacher: okay please angel !!
angel: oxidation reduction reaction is a reaction marked by the delivery of electrons from one particle to another particles. Redox reaction can be known by looking at the change of number Oxidation (BO) atoms before and after the reaction.Atoms whose BO rises oxidizes or releases electrons, whereas the BO down is a reduction or that accepts electrons.
Teacher: really angel.oke can you give an example of oxidation reduction reactions in everyday life?
Clara: (raising hands) like photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a process of biological oxidation reaction that occurs naturally. Photosynthesis is a complex process and involves green plants , Green algae or certain bacteria of these organisms are capable of using solar energy (ultraviolet light) through redox reactions producing oxygen and sugar.
Wulan: i want to add an example of the oxidation reduction reaction?
teacher: okay wulan please!
Wulan: well I will give a second example of burning. Burning is the most common example of redox reaction on burning propane (C3H8) in air (O2) Oxidized carbon atoms form CO2 and the oxygen atom is reduced to H2O.
Teacher: okay , so you already know what is the reaction of reduction and oxidation, bahakan in the form of everyday life. Maybe enough until here our material will be continued in next meeting, okay till see you😊.
Student: see you😊

What about autoredox reactions?
BalasHapusThe autoredox or disproportionation reaction is a redox reaction that the oxidizer and its reductant are the same substances. Thus, some of the substances are oxidized and others are reduced.
HapusExample:

A portion of the chlorine gas (Cl2) (biloks = 0) is reduced to NaCl (oxidation = -1) and the other half oxidizes to NaClO (oxidation = +1).
What is the relationship of photosynthesis with the redosk reaction you explain?
BalasHapusIn the process of photosynthesis is the process of redox (oxidation reduction). As the water dissolves, the electrons are transferred along with hydrogen ions from water to carbon dioxide and reduce it to sugar. Electrons cultivate their potential energy when moving from water to sugars, this energy requirement is provided by light.
HapusHow we can give example of oxidation reduction reaction in the real life?
BalasHapusbleach
HapusBleach is a compound that can be used to remove the color of objects, such as on textiles, hair and paper. Color removal takes place through oxidation reactions. The commonly used oxidizers are sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2).
The color of the object is caused by the electrons being activated by visible light. The loss of the color of an object is caused by the oxidizer being able to remove the electron. The electrons released are then bonded by the oxidizer.
Why electron transfer will always change the oxidation number?

How to determine oxidation and reductionnumber, give examples?
BalasHapusOxidation:
HapusElectron discharges (in electron reactions on the right) capture oxygen releases Hydrogen The oxidation number (Bilox) increases
Reduction:
Electron capture (in electron reactions on the left) removes oxygen captures Hydrogen The oxidation number (Bilox) is reduced
A redox reaction is a reaction that has two events, namely reduction and oxidation (there are changes in one or more of the reacting elements).
The autoredox reaction is a redox reaction that only one type of element undergoes reduction and oxidation.
Explain and give examples of oxidation and reduction!
BalasHapusOxidation and Reduction in daily life
BalasHapusRedox reactions occurring in everyday life are found in combustion reactions, metals processing, electrochemical cell metabolism, and corrosion.
1) Redox reactions in industry
The metal is obtained from the ore through the process of redox, electrolysis, and reduction.
- Iron is obtained from ores by reducing iron ore with carbon in a blast furnace.
- Zinc is obtained by baking (oxidizing) the zinc ores and then the zinc oxide formed is reduced with carbon.
- ZnCO3 ------> ZnO + CO3
- Chrom obtained from ore by reducing crome ore with aluminum metal.
- Metal sodium and graphite. Obtained by electrolysis of liquid salt of kitchen with electrode of steel
